On the thirs day at TRA 2026, the AEVETO Cluster session at the ALICE booth brought together EU projects, industry experts and logistics stakeholders to discuss how to move from zero-emission heavy-duty vehicle demonstrations to large-scale deployment.
The session featured insights from:
โก FLEXMCS project & MACBETH Project, from Alice Scotti
๐ ESCALATE - Horizon Europe Project & NextETRUCK, from Niklas Schmalholz
๐ ZEFES, from ben kraaijenhagen
A clear message emerged:
Technology is there, but alone is not enough.
Scaling zero-emission long-haul freight requires a full ecosystem shift across vehicles, infrastructure, policy, digital tools and logistics operations.
๐ Thomas Geury from Vrije Universiteit Brussel also presented preliminary findings from the AEVETO Working Group 3 white paper on energy infrastructure for heavy-duty electric vehicles, highlighting key barriers such as TCO, infrastructure readiness, interoperability, energy prices and cross-border harmonisation.
The expert panel, moderated by Yancho Todorov with Omar Hegazy, Andrea Condotta, Frances Sprei, Mats Rosenquist and Federico Cartasegna, explored how vehicle innovation, infrastructure deployment and logistics operations can evolve together.
2030 is closer than we think.
The next step is to turn todayโs demonstrations into tomorrowโs scalable, reliable and integrated zero-emission freight ecosystem
